Staff Policies We would like to offer some insight into what you can expect from us, the staff at Memorium Tempestatis and in return what we expect from the players who join us here. If you have any questions about what you're reading, please please don't hesitate to come speak with one of us. We'll do our best to sort it out. Open Door Policy Basically what this means is we want players to feel they can bring their concerns, comments, and questions to us without feeling like we're waiting for the chance to jump down a player's throat and harass them or tell them their view is invalid. We, as staff, have been on both sides of the fence and hope that experience will make this a more enjoyable game for all involved. We are far more agreeable to a discussion if a player comes to us with a problem than if he or she goes to another site and posts about how tyrannical and evil the staff at Memorium are. We can't fix a problem if we do not know it exists. Just as we will point out mistakes in character information, we would hope our players will do the same if they see something amiss on the game. We want our players to feel as if their input is important, because we feel it is. At the same time, we ask that players speak with our staff alts and allow our character alts to RP. We do not go off-duty without a good reason, so if no one is available, @mail works remarkably well. We will also post if one of us is going to be away from the game for any length of time so that players are aware of an absence. Otherwise there will be at least one staffer on each day. If the problem is something that requires immediate attention, such as, say, a player who somehow hacked into the game and is destroying the grid, contact one of our PCs but otherwise, allow us to enjoy some RP. It is why we are all here, afterall. Privacy Let's face it, no place on the Internet is completely private and while we cannot claim that everything you might say or do on the game will never be seen anywhere else for we cannot stop players from logging their RP, we can promise players that we will respect their privacy. Staff will not go dark and spy on you, nor will we set any dark items in a room to spy on players. We will not ask you for any personal information, aside from an email address. Don't want to use your email address? Go to one of the thousand free email sites and get one just for gaming. Basically what we're saying is that we aren't going to do any investigating into your personal life. The game will display where you're connected from while you're online, but to staff only. Staff will occasionally log conversations between player and staff member. Again, this isn't to use against a player at a later date, but simply to keep records. This is certainly the case if we are discussing a TP idea or a general problem on the game. Staff will keep staff and player logs to themselves, that is, only other staffers will see the logs. Staff will not reveal other players' alts, so please do not ask, nor will we offer up private character information to other players. If you have an intriguing tidbit in your background that we think would make for an interesting TP, we will discuss it with you first before doing anything else. Staff and their alts Some people do not like games where staff does any RP at all, or RPs in their area. If you believe that staff should not RP at all or in their sphere, Memorium probably isn't the game for you. Memorium was created because this is a world we have wanted to role play in for some time now. This does not mean we will hold all the positions of power on the game. First of all, that isn't fair to our players and second of all, it just simply isn't possible. We have created a theme that offers leadership positions in a variety of areas, giving many people the chance to take charge. There are some positions that because of their rare exposure to the general populace will be NPCed by staff when they are needed. As the game grows we may allow these high level NPCs to become PCs, but for now, especially to get things rolling, they will remain NPCs. This does not mean that players can't change thing. For example, if the Sultan's Qadim (his advisors) all agree that a certain action should be taken, the NPC Sultan will more than likely take their advice. These NPCs will be used to give information and TP hooks to other players. It is the players' responsibility to then take those hooks and run with them. Policy Changes Let's face it, none of us are all-knowing. We cannot anticipate every single possibility before it happens, but we've tried to cover the largest ones. If, at some point, something comes up that causes us to re-evaluate our policies on the game, we will announce them here and on the game. We do not intend to have a secret list of rules to use against people, that just isn't fair. But we do anticipate that we may have to make changes down the road and so we state that policies can be changed at any time, but we will make all efforts to alert the players to these changes. Should I Stay or Should I Go? Not every game is a perfect fit for every player and there comes a time when a player and a game must part ways. This is fine with us. We realize that Memorium will not be everyone's cup of tea and will never harass someone to try and get them to stay. We are hoping to build a community of skilled role players and storytellers who enjoy the story we're presenting. Numbers don't mean that much for we aren't setting out to break connection records. We created this theme because we love it and we want to share it with others. Whether that be 10 people or 50 people, we do not care. That being said, it is important to state that while we are willing to accept player contributions and suggestions to make the game better (because we know it isn't perfect) we do not appreciate being threatened. We are all very familiar with the "If you don't do what I say, I'm leaving the game and taking my friends with me" tactic and trust us, it isn't going to work on Memorium. If we have rejected an idea it will be with good reason, most likely because it wasn't thematic. We will work to try and adjust the idea to fit the theme but some things will just never become part of the game. We will not, for example, have automobiles on the game, it just doesn't fit. Using threats of taking players from the game isn't going to make us change our minds. We would hate to see a situation dissolve into those kinds of tactics and hope that all problems can be resolved before it reaches such a stage. But, we are all human and none of us is perfect. We will all make mistakes and we will all not agree with everyone all the time. We simply hope that the lines of communication can remain open and that our players feel comfortable doing so. The long and the short of it is we want to give players an enjoyable place to play with as few problems as possible. A lofty goal, we realize, but one we are shooting for anyway. Please don't think of us as some unreachable admin but rather fellow players who are opening our home to you.
