Avannais Counties and Noble Houses

This page provides additional information on the PC Counties and noble houses of Avanne. Counties are ruled by a Count or Countess and like the Duchies, only a Count or Countess player can create information about a PC County. If you are a noble you are welcome to provide information of your house, no matter your rank in it. You can also provide information about a noble house that is connected to you in some fashion, such as your mother's house.

County Information

County Gallerneault, in the Duchy of Chaveaux, is located on the Creare Sea, near the border of Avanne and Castana. With its access to the sea, it should come as no surprise that much of the county's income comes from fishing and trading. When the Orienites held control over the nation of Castana the Gallerneaults, who are Orienites in a Vesperan Duchy, had a very amiable relationship with the southern nation. Trade with Castana still exists, though the Gallerneaults were slow to accept the new leaders in Castana and found themselves on the losing end in trade deals, at least in the Lumite controlled portion of the nation. There is still a great relationship between the county and some of the families in northern Castana.

The family of the Count de Gallerneault can be traced back generations; a detail of which the family is intensely proud. They keep detailed records of their genealogy in a family library; a library employing scribes whose task it is to keep the records in tact and to instruct the younger generations of the family. They have always been Orienites and remained such even when most of the Duchy embraced the god and goddess of the Vesperan faith. There is rumor that some of the houses in the county have slowly been shifting to the Vesperan faith, at least the younger members, but the Count himself and his family remain firmly entrenched in the Orienite faith and show no signs of converting.

House Information

Once a modest fishing family the members of House Abinet have flourished into one of the wealthiest and most influential houses in the County Gallerneault. They oversee one of the largest fisheries in the county, an industry that has allowed most of the family to live a life of idle luxury. Many lesser houses view them with either wariness or disgust. It is heavily rumored that Abinet has some darker dealing with the Count de Gallerneault and his family and many point to the fact that an Abinet daughter is now the Countess. It is well known that members of the Abinet family have been known to threaten or otherwise intimidate lesser houses without so much as a blink from the Count

Like their Count, the Abinet family is strongly Orienite, so much so that members of the family who even discuss the idea of converting are punished severely. The family considers loyalty within the family of great importance and many heads of the house over the years have ruled with fear, rather than love.

House Langlais

House Information

A small house in the County Gallerneault who has also made their fortune, such as it is, through fishing and a small amount of trade, though they have been greatly overshadowed by the Abinet family. They are generally considered an artistic house, producing a surprising number of musicians and artists, though they are generally only accepted in the most distant branches. Those of the direct line of the Marquis are strongly persuaded to engage in more acceptable pursuits, such as joining the priesthood becoming a knight if their path is not set to follow in the family's business. They tend not to be involved in the politics of the County, Duchy, or nation. Rather, they leave such business to the larger noble families and the Count himself.
